“This is to notify you that your application for permanent residence has been approved.”
After three years, five needle jabs and navigating the beast that is US immigration laws and visas, we’re finally here. We’ve transitioned from ‘Legal Aliens’ to ‘Residents’.
Which is a pity. I enjoyed referring to myself as an ‘Alien’. But this new status means:
No more insane waiting times to clear immigration after a 16-hour flight.
No more hemming and hawing, on really bad days, over whether we should pack up our belongings and move back to Asia.
No more on-again, off-again employment status for me.
Time to pop the champagne I say!
Congrats! How cool!

Thanks everyone, it feels like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders! Let the full Americanization begin! 😉
Congrats, Danielle! The champagne is a must, I say. I still remember the day I got my Australian residency, so I know the feeling of elation and relief.
All the best in this new chapter of your life!
Congrats! I remember the feeling. Seeing the envelope in the mailbox, not wanting to open it fearing denial, then jumping for joy when it’s not.
Congratulations, Danielle!!! I know how it feels. Such a fine accomplishment!
Woohoo champagne popping indeed – I can imaginge what a struggle it is as my sisters-in-law both went through the process.
Hallelujah! So happy for you!!
